As every new year rolls around, a batch of new changes to the search engine algorithm also rolls around. In this constantly changing field, business owners and marketers are forced to also keep on top of these changes, but it can be hard to do all the research and find all the answers yourself.

So, before heading into the New Year with guns blazing and the old SEO strategy in place, learn about the possible pitfalls to avoid in 2023.

Consider how many people own mobile phones, now consider missing out on the possible revenue of all these people. This is what you’re doing if you are not actively mobile optimizing your website.  For years now, Google considers mobile optimization as part of its ranking factors, so get with the times and make sure your website is mobile responsive, with your text, images and videos all streamlined to fit this platform.

Consider this: Do you actually know what quality content is? Content that serves a purpose is more than just well-written text with correct grammar and spelling. Content with a purpose will always be ranked higher in Google searches. It must be useful to your core audience, satisfy a need they have, and be interesting to read. If all of these things are met, you will have high-quality content that strengthens your SEO strategy.

We understand your desire to stick with your ways; after all, if something works for you, why change it? This is not however correct for SEO. To excel, you really want to realize that the algorithm is continuously changing, and you really want to adjust to suit it. Because this is too much for normal businesses to handle, many businesses hire marketing experts to handle it. You need to keep up with the forums, tech blogs, and Google’s own social media if you want to handle this yourself.

One of the most frequently overlooked aspects of website optimization is images. It is not enough to simply include an image on your website; you must also optimize it. Images need to be in the right size, format, and resolution in order to do this accurately. This is due to the fact that images can affect page loading speeds, which in turn affects user engagement and rankings as a whole. Images also provide search engines with information through alternative text.

Page loading speed has been a ranking factor for some time. This indicates its significance, but are you aware of the average speed? The recommended page speed time for the previous year was 3 seconds, but the average load time is 8.66 seconds. This implies your pages need to stack between 8-3 seconds, even less if conceivable. Google values this because it influences user satisfaction, and users are more likely to click on other websites’ results if their pages load too slowly.

When your webpage has domain authority, Google views it as trustworthy. This indicates that Google considers websites with high EAT—effectiveness, authority, and trustworthiness—to be crucial. You should place the same importance on this aspect as Google does. You can demonstrate your trustworthiness to Google and move up the rankings at the same time if you have well-written content, a well-designed website, and a lot of backlinks.

It’s completely understandable to look at the above list and have trouble knowing where to begin. Many people struggle to keep on top of the new year algorithm changes, not to mention the ones rolled out throughout the year.
